Some time ago this Strat came in for a refinish. The customer wanted it purple, and was thinking a solid color. I convinced him that a semi transparent purple dye might make for a better looking finish.

First the factory finish needed to be removed and the dents a previous owner had "decorated" it with in a sad attempt at relicing.

After a couple months of sanding and reapplying first the dye and then 30 to 40 hand applied coats of clear the end result turned out even better than expected. I also decided to shield the electronics with copper shielding to eliminate any potential rf interference.
